PAINKULAM RAMAN CHAKYAR Successfully produced and staged the 2nd act of Shakunthalam, third act of Naganada and Mayasitankam and Jatayuvadhankam in Ascharyachoodamani. He wrote Malayalam slokams (verses) for the use of Vidhushaka in Shakunthalam 2nd act and Naganada 3rd act. He also wrote a short Prabhandham on the life of Shree Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri and used them for Prabhadha Koothu at Guruvayoor Temple with success.

He edited and condensed many Koodiyattam plays without affecting in any way the artistic integrity and authenticity of their traditional production. This has secured larger audience for this theatre form and it has been necessitated by the changing times and nature of new audience.

He presented 2 papers in the Koodiyattam conducted at Kerala kalamadalam in 1965 - one on the technique of Abhinaya and the other on Vachikabhinaya (modes of recitation) employed in Koodiyattam .

He initiated the movement for taking Koodiyattam and the art of Prabhandha Koothu out of the Temple precincts to which they where traditionally confined. This helped to revive Koodiyattam and win for it larger audience.

Shree Raman Chakyar was also known for his art of making costumes and ornaments.
